DON’T STOP DREAMIN LOOKS FOR DREAM RUN IN WITCHES BREW

Nearly two years ago trainer Eddie Broome was at Calder Racecourse, claim slip in hand, looking at a filly in the eighth race. After eyeing the field in the paddock, he switched his attention to a different horse and dropped that $25,000 claim slip for Don't Stop Dreamin, a 2-year-old filly by West Acre.

Since then, Don't Stop Dreamin has made seven trips to the winner's circle. On Friday night, she'll take aim at some bigger dividends in the $60,000 Witches Brew Stakes at the Meadowlands.

"I picked her on looks alone," Broome said. "I was intending on taking another horse out of that race, but I didn't like the way she looked in the paddock. This filly looked great, so I went for it."

That keen instinct has been rewarded with $190,000 in earnings, seven win photos and two years of campaigning a filly that has proven worth much more than her bargain claim price.

On Friday night she'll make just her second start in a stakes race. She finished third in the Klassy Briefcase Stakes at Monmouth Park on July 19.

"She was impeded in that race," Broome said. "Had that not happened, we probably would have won it."

Don't Stop Dreamin returned from that 5 1-2 furlong stakes try to go two turns in her last two outings. She finished fourth in both those allowance efforts, the last coming on August 31.

"She's much better going shorter," said Broome. "The short allowance race didn't fill, so it was either the distance races or not run at all. We've given her a little bit of time since her last and she should be ready to go on Friday."

As for strategy in the $60,000 Witches Brew, "We'll be stalking from her inside post and look to get outside for the drive."

A full field is set to contest this year's Witches Brew, including last year's winner, Weeks, who has drawn 12 post.

The entire field, with rider and weight assignments, is:

1. House Quest, Joe Bravo, 119
