Doug Bredar Named Gulfstream Park Racing Secretary
Doug Bredar, a nationally respected racing official with more than 20 years experience, has been named Racing Secretary at Gulfstream Park.
“Many highly qualified people were interviewed for this position and what distinguished Doug, beyond his experience and obvious capabilities, was his enthusiasm for Gulfstream Park,” said Gulfstream Park President and General Manager Bill Murphy. “His contacts span the country and his enthusiasm is infectious. We anticipate he and his staff will put on a show that will prove to be one of Gulfstream Park’s finest.”
Currently Racing Secretary at Louisiana Downs, Mr. Bredar has proven himself to be energetic and creative while working at major racetracks from coast to coast. He served as Director of Racing and Racing Secretary at Churchill Downs and Ellis Park from 2002-2006, pleasing horseplayers with his ability to produce large, competitive fields and with his innovative approach to the wagering aspect of the industry.
Prior to his stint in Kentucky, Mr. Bredar was Assistant Racing Secretary and Stakes Coordinator at Hollywood Park; Director of Racing and Racing Secretary at Turf Paradise; and Racing Secretary at Prairie Meadows. The first two Breeders’ Cup programs he was involved with came at Gulfstream Park in 1989 and 1992, while he was a Placing Judge and Stakes Coordinator here.
He is also a member of the Jockey Club’s Committee on the Welfare and Safety of the Racehorse.
“I’m very excited to return to Gulfstream Park and South Florida,” Mr. Bredar said. “I have great memories of working there for Tommy Trotter, Terry Meyocks and Bobby Umphrey and I look forward to working with Bill Murphy and his management team.”
Mr. Bredar will finish the meet at Louisiana Downs, which closes Oct. 18, and will be planning “numerous trips on behalf of Gulfstream Park in the coming months.”
