Eye Scores In Kattegat’s Pride Starter Handicap

BALTIMORE, 05-15-09 – The Jim Stable’s Eye rallied from off a slow pace to win in the second running of the Kattegat 's Pride Starter Handicap, the first of seven added money events on Black-Eyed Susan day at Pimlico.

Ridden by Jeremy Rose and trained by King Leatherbury, Eye settled in fifth in a field of six fillies and mares going down the backstretch in the 1 1/16-mile test on the main track. She rallied on the far turn before splitting horses at the top of the stretch, crossing the finish line first in 1:47.52.

Bea Lucky Please, who chased pacesetting Four Karats to the top of the stretch, finished second. Four Karats, the winner of last year’s inaugural running of the Kattegat’s Pride, finished third.

Eye, a 5-year-old daughter of Larrupin’, paid $3.60.

Kattegat’s Pride Starter Handicap Quotes

King Leatherbury, winning trainer – “I bred her, but I didn’t think that much of her at first. She has become much better than I thought she would be. She is a consistent earner and there is nothing wrong with that. I wasn’t worried in the early stages of the race, because she always puts in her run.

Jeremy Rose, winning jockey – “They were going slow, but I wasn’t concerned at all. I’ve ridden my filly before, and she’s a game horse. I figured I could make up three lengths in any part of the race that I wanted to.”
