WHO: Calder Race Course – Thoroughbred Horse Racing

WHAT: 2008/09 TROPICAL MEET
Calder Race Course, located on South Florida’s Miami-Dade / Broward county line, offers Thoroughbred horse racing and wholecard simulcasting during two consecutive meets: Calder and Tropical. The Tropical Meet traditionally signals the start of the winter racing season in South Florida and this year runs from Oct. 23 through Jan. 2, 2009.


Special events include:

* Simulcast of the Breeders’ Cup World Championships from Santa Anita on Oct. 24 & 25
* The Florida Million on Nov. 8
* Major stakes races on Dec. 6, Dec. 13 and Dec. 27
* Tropical Park Derby (G3) and Calder Calendar Giveaway on Jan. 1


WHEN: Oct. 23, 2008 – Jan. 2, 2009
Post time: 12:25 p.m. / Admission gates open at 11:00 a.m.
(Post time 12 p.m. on Breeders’ Cup Saturday (Oct. 25) and 11 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day – Nov. 27)
Live racing Thursday through Sunday (dark Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday); simulcasting every day and night (except Dec. 25, closed). Other exceptions: live racing on Nov. 10 and Nov. 24 and Mondays in December, plus Tues., Dec. 23.

HOW MUCH: Grandstand and clubhouse admission are free.
Calder offers a free parking section, a $2 preferred lot, and $5 valet.
Turf Club admission for non-members is $5 on weekdays and $10 on weekends, with $5 vouchers towards food and beverage included.

The track is home of the Turf Million, Summit of Speed, Juvenile Showcase, Festival of the Sun, Florida Million and Grand Slam series of events. A wholly owned property of Churchill Downs Incorporated (NASDAQ Global Select Market: CHDN), Calder also operates the Tropical Meet. In 2008, the Calder Meet runs from April 21 through October 19 and the Tropical Meet runs from Oct. 20 through Jan. 2, 2009.
