Final Abu Dhabi meeting of the season staged tomorrow

The Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club sponsor Sunday’s final meeting of the season in the Capital with the Group 1 Emirates Championship for Purebred Arabians sharing star billing with the Listed Abu Dhabi Championship for Thoroughbreds.

Both races are over 2200m and 11 have been declared for the Purebred Arabian event in which Richard Hills has elected to ride Remarkable Man, one of three runners owned by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

He is trained by Erwan Charpy, as is Arsene Rupin who will be ridden by Tadhg O’Shea.

Eric Lemartinel is always feared in these races and Baher appears his main hope, while Rod Simpson continues to have a great season and his Time Out could prove a live threat.

Hills and Charpy also combine in the Thoroughbred race with Mashaheed and he faces the maximum allowed 13 rivals. The trainer has three others in the contest, including O’Shea’s mount Hello Morning.

Dhruba Selvaratnam’s Mulaqat won this last year so conditions clearly suit and, though this looks a stronger renewal, he will be thereabouts under Daragh O’Donohoe who also rides Time Out.

Doug Watson should be crowned Champion Trainer again on the night and his Weald will go close under Fernando Jara who leads the jockeys’ title race and will take a lot of catching with the season drawing to a close.
