Four Group Races Await February 9 Dubai World Cup Carnival Meeting


Dubai, UAE, 7 February 2012 – The second round of the Al Maktoum Challenge, a Group 2 affair for Thoroughbreds and Group 1 for Purebred Arabians will be joined by the UAE 2000 Guineas and Firebreak Stakes, both Group 3 contests, on the action-packed February 9 Dubai World Cup Carnival programme sponsored by Dubai Aluminum.

Prizemoney will be impressive with both the Thoroughbred Al Maktoum Challenge, held at 1,900m, and the UAE 2000 Guineas, 1,600m, valued at US $250,000.


The Firebreak Stakes, run over 1,600m, will be US$200,000 and the Group 1 Arabian event over 2,200m, is US $55,000. These races will be held on the all-weather surface.

Post time for the night of racing is 6:30 pm, and the programme serves as the eighth, the mid-point of the current 16-day carnival that concludes with the Dubai World Cup on March 31.
