FROLIC’S REVENGE TO THREE RING; WICKED NIGHT OPTS ELSEWHERE
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (July 15, 2012) – Calder Casino & Race Course stakes coordinator Sean Perl reports that Stride Rite Racing Stable, Inc.’s Frolic’s Revenge, a three-time stakes winner at the meet for trainer Milt Wolfson, is listed as a likely starter in next weekend’s $75,000 Three Ring Stakes, while trainer Ron Spatz declared that Alter’s Racing Stable, Inc’s Wicked Night was unlikely to make the race.
“If something happened and Milt didn’t enter his filly, we might take another look at the race, but right now the Three Ring isn’t in our plans,” Spatz said on Sunday. “We’re looking to keep her on the turf and there’s a race coming up later in the month (the $55,000 Ms Brookski on July 28) that we’ll aim for.”
“I thought that was a real good race for her,” Spatz said. “And I think she was good enough to win that day, we just got a little unlucky.”
Wicked Night was claimed for $75,000 out of a December 9 maiden race at Gulfstream Park where she crossed the wire third. The daughter of Tiznow has since returned to win two of four starts for her current connections, and was beaten less than a length in not only the Sweettrickydancer but also in a May 25 main-track allowance, where she finished second.
“She’s a real nice horse, but she can be a little mean,” Spatz said. “Whoever named her certainly got it right, she is wicked. But when they can run, bad behavior is a lot easier to put up with.”
ALL NINE EL KAISER NOMINEES POSSIBLE FOR THE RACE
Perl also reported on Sunday that of the nine horses nominated to the $75,000 El Kaiser Stakes, seven are listed as probable starters for the race, with the other two viewed as possible to make the one mile and 70-yard race.
Probable starters for the El Kaiser include Bruce Hollander and Cary Shapoff’s Csaba and Luis Duco Stables, Inc.’s Empire Builder, rivals that have met four times during their young careers with Csaba defeating Empire Builder in a local allowance on May 12, and Empire Builder turning the tables on his foe two weeks later when winning the $55,000 Mambo Meister.
Also listed as probable for the race is Bellefire, a winner of two straight races at the meet; Mr. Espresso, who also brings a two-race winning streak to the race; Niam’s Strike, a 2 ½-length winner in his last; Ravelo’s Boy, runner-up to Empire Builder in the American Dreamer; and Two Is to Many, third in the American Dreamer.
Azafran, a winner of his last two races by a combined 11 lengths, and Midnight Serenade, who was last seen finishing fifth in the Grade 3 Pegasus at Monmouth Park earlier this month, are possible for the race
HUGO SANCHEZ NAMED JOCKEY OF THE MONTH
Apprentice rider Hugo Sanchez was named Jockey of the Month for July and will be honored following the third race on Saturday. Sanchez, who carries a seven-pound weight break, doubled his career win total during the time period between June 15 and July 13, visiting the winner’s circle 14 times.
