Full Field of 14 Set for Sunday’s Wide-Open South Beach
Farnsworth Stables’ 5-year-old mare Flibberjibbit finished a game third behind I Lost My Choo last out in the Honey Fox Stakes (G3) at Gulfstream Park on Mar. 7, and will be among the favorites in a field of 14 fillies and mares entered in Saturday’s $50,000 South Beach Stakes.
Jockey Elvis Trujillo gets the call on Flibberjibit for trainer Marty Wolfson in the 7½-furlong turf test and will not have to face I Lost My Choo again – that rival was entered in Saturday’s Jenny Wiley Stakes (G3) at Keeneland.
A solid threat in the South Beach will be Sackatoga Stable’s 5-year-old mare Pastel Gal, to be ridden by Jose Lezcano. Trainer Barclay Tagg shipped most of his stable north last week, but left Pastel Gal for this spot after she won a pair of allowance races over the course earlier in the meet. The daughter of Lemon Drop Kid is a confirmed stretch-runner that may get the fast pace she needs up front.
Jedbugh Stud’s 5-year-old French-bred filly All Is Vanity will be making her first start since mid-October in the South Beach, but will get plenty of support with jockey Joe Bravo aboard for trainer Christophe Clement, although they will have to overcome drawing post 13.
All Is Vanity finished a game third, beaten less than a length for it all in the Violet Stakes (G3) at Meadowlands on Oct. 17. The chestnut daughter of Gold Away had won two of four previous starts in the U.S., placing in two other stakes since arriving from France last winter. All Is Vanity won her American debut in a Gulfstream allowance early last year.
Completing the field for the South Beach are Darley Stable’s Raw Silk, Mr Amore Stable’s American Border, Reata Thoroughbreds’ Reata’s Vixen, DATTT Stable’s Dattts Our Girl, Kevin Doyle’s Missvinski, J. Mack Robinson’s Drop a Line, J D Farm’s Ashley River, Richlyn Farm’s Pay Wright, Repole Stable’s What She Said, Frank Calabrese’s Dreaming of Liz and Joan and Sam Pieper’s Quiet Queen.
