Georgia Juvenile Filly Turf Dash One of Three Stakes Saturday at Calder

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (July 31, 2008) – The $75,000 Georgia Juvenile Filly Turf Dash to be run Saturday at Calder Race Course drew a wide-open field of 10, including two first-time starters and two other maidens that can’t be discounted. The race leads a trio of stakes to be run on the 12-race program, followed by editions of the $55,000 Regal Gal overnight and the $55,000 Valid Video overnight.

Raymond Feldman and co-owner-breeder-trainer Wesley Ward’s My Sweet Natalie and Joel Kligman’s Jungle Jill will be among the choices in the five-furlong Georgia Juvenile Filly Turf Dash with jockeys Paco Lopez and Ariel Smith aboard, respectively.

My Sweet Natalie is well-traveled for a young filly having been bred by Ward in California, training this spring at Keeneland in Kentucky and making her first two starts at Woodbine in Canada before arriving at Calder early this month with time to post three workouts here.

My Sweet Natalie is a daughter of Ward’s stallion Bring the Heat, whose daughter Excessive Heat won the Georgia Juvenile Filly Turf Dash last year. My Sweet Natalie won her two-furlong debut on April 20 at Woodbine and finished seventh of eight in the My Dear Stakes there on June 30 in her only other start, both races on Polytrack. She got a test over the Calder turf course on July 21, breezing a half-mile in 50 3/5.

Jungle Jill is a daughter of Express Tour that won her debut here on the main track on June 7 by 4 ¾ lengths for trainer Larry Pilotti and was subsequently transferred to trainer Eddie Plesa, Jr. In one start since she finished third as the even-money favorite in the JJ’s Dream overnight stakes on ‘Summit of Speed’ day, July 12.

Completing the field for the Georgia Juvenile Filly Turf Dash are Luis Quersia’s Am I Bad, Jacks or Better Farm’s Garter Belt, Gilbert Campbell’s Western Scandal, Anthony Grey’s Fast Footnote, Charlotte Gershaw’s Wild Actress, Brazil Stable’s Brazilianbombshell and J D Farm’s uncoupled entry of Avalon Light and Whatta Light.
