Godolphin Mile, sponsored by Etisalat attracts 368 Nominees

Able One, a three time Group 1 winner over 1,600m in Hong Kong including last year’s Hong Kong Mile, is amongst the 368 entries from 14 countries for the US$1 million Group 2 Godolphin Mile, sponsored by Etisalat.

Trained by John Moore Able One will represent Hong Kong, and joins four other horses from that country.

This year will see the 17th running of the Godolphin Mile and it proved to be the most popular race for entries as it led the nine Dubai World Cup events with the largest number of horses entered.

The race, held over 1,600 metres on the all-weather surface was won last year by Skysurfers to give Godolphin a record tenth win in the event.

Godolphin’s Saeed bin Suroor, a nine-time winning trainer of the race including 2011, has 24 entries, while fellow Godolphin trainer Mahmoud Al Zarooni, successful with Calming Influence in 2010, has 15, including recent Dubai World Cup Carnival winner and track record breaker Capponi.

The USA has 45 entries, headlined by last year’s Champion Older Horse and four time Grade 1 winner Acclamation, and includes four from previous winning trainers Richard Dutrow Jr (Diamond Stripes 2008) and three from Doug O’Neill (Spring At Last 2007).

South African handler Mike de Kock, who won the race in 2005 with Grand Emporium, has 17 entries.

Great Britain has 22 entries, Ireland 7 and Japan 14, headed by Group 1 winner Eishin Apollon, trained by Masahiro Matsunaga.
