Gozzip Girl Rallies in Stretch to Capture Herecomesthebride

Jockey Elvis Trujillo brought Farnsworth Stables’ 3-year-old filly Gozzip Girl up the rail in the stretch of Sunday’s $150,000 Herecomesthebride Stakes (G3) at Gulfstream Park for a half-length victory over Andrew Farm and Frank O’Connor’s Obsequious.

The victory was the second in a stakes at the meet for Gozzip Girl and the fifth of the season here for trainer Tom Albertrani. Dell Ridge Farm’s Bluegrass Prince finished third in the field of eight 3-year-old fillies, three-quarters of a length behind the runner-up. Livin the Dream Stable’s Dream Empress, the 9-5 favorite, was never a threat, finishing seventh.

A $60,000 Keeneland September yearling purchase by Dynaformer, Gozzip Girl paid $7.60 to win and was timed the 1 1/8 miles on firm turf in 1:47:25

Winning Jockey Quotes

Elvis Trujillo:

“She broke terribly. She was real nervous and just wanted to stay back. I didn’t force anything and just stayed back waiting for an opportunity (to make a move). I was trying hard not to lose Edgar (Prado on Obsequious) and Johnny (Velazquez on Bluegrass Princess). She put it in another gear around the three-eighths, and when I really asked, there was plenty horse for me. I felt we had plenty more even after crossing the finish (line).”

Winning Trainer Quotes:

Tom Albertrani:

“I wasn’t sure whether I’d run her in this race after she had run here twice at the meet, but she was training so well and worked good, we decided to go. (Elvis) Trujillo rode a great race to come up the inside. If he goes around the other horse (Obsequious) we’re probably second. She’ll have plenty of time now until her next start, probably in the Sands Point at Belmont (May 30).”
