HOTSTUFANTHENSOME WINS MONMOUTH TURF FEATURE

OCEANPORT, N.J. * Main Street Stable’s Hotstufanthensome reaffirmed his love of Monmouth’s turf course Thursday afternoon, as he gamely withstood a challenge through the stretch to post a head victory in the $45,000 allowance feature.

The 8-year-old gelding, trained by Terri Pompay and ridden by Jose Lezcano, raced the mile and a sixteenth over the firm course in 1:42 1/5 and paid $6.20, $3.40 and $3.20 across the board as second choice in the field of seven older horses.

Victory Alleged, who poked his head in front of the winner at the top of the stretch, raced well through the final furlong, but could never get his head in front again. He completed the $30.80 exacta and paid $4.60 to place and $5.40 to show. Murch was third and paid $6.20 to show.


Hotstufanthensome, a graded stakes winner at Monmouth in his younger days, improved his record to 6-5-0 in 12 starts here. He was coming off a fifth place finish in the Elkwood Stakes, where he was forced to avoid a fallen horse.

The winner and Victory Alleged moved in unison around the turn, and at one point Victory Alleged had the edge, but Hotstufanthensome showed why he has lifetime earnings of more than $650,000 as he resolutely held the lead through the final furlong.

A special 10-race program is on tap at Monmouth Park for the Fourth of July headlined by the $150,000 Jersey Shore Stakes. As always, first post is 12:50 p.m.
