Jays Wildcat Wins Juvenile Prep Sunday

NEW ORLEANS (Sunday, November 22, 2009) – Harris Hughey’s Jays Wildcat pressed the pace briefly before taking command leaving the backstretch and then drew off late for a 1 1/2-length score in Sunday’s feature at Fair Grounds – a prep race for the upcoming $100,000 Louisiana Champions Day Juvenile Dec. 12.

The winner, a 2-year-old accredited Louisiana-bred trained by Sturges Ducoing, paid $10.60, $5 and $4.20 and toured the six furlongs in 1:11.65 after alternating for the lead briefly during early splits of 22.27 and 46.26. The son of Wildcat Shoes increased his career earnings to $53,813 with his second win in four lifetime starts.

Jockey Jesse Campbell, accomplishing his second win of the day, rode Jays Wildcat. Others with multiple wins on Sunday were jockey John Jacinto with three and trainer Eric Guillot with two.

Set-Hut Stables False Start finished second, a neck in front of entrymate Moyers. As the nom-de-course of the NFL’s star quarterback Jake Delhomme of the Carolina Panthers, the Set-Hut coupling returned $4.80 to place and $5.60 to show.

Racing resumes Thursday at Fair Grounds with 10-race program beginning with a special Thanksgiving Day first post time of 12:40 p.m. The festive holiday program features the 84th running of the traditional Thanksgiving Day Handicap
