Jebel Ali mile contest this friday

Friday’s seventh meeting of the season at Jebel Ali is highlighted by the Listed Jebel Ali Mile, kindly sponsored by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s Derrinstown Stud and for which ten have been declared.

Sheikh Hamdan owns two of the runners and his retained jockey, Richard Hills, has elected to ride UAE debutant Hello Morning who was highly tried during his spell in France.

He is trained by Erwan Charpy who said: “He is a horse we like and he has been working well. Hopefully he will act on the surface and should go close.”

Charpy, who won the race with Pacino in 2002, also saddles Golden Arrow who was runner-up in this race last year and the Frenchman continued: “We know the conditions suit and he will relish the return to the track and slight drop in class.”

Champion Trainer Doug Watson bids for a third win in the race and his Lucky Ray has been in great form at Nad Al Sheba this season under Daragh O’Donohoe who maintains the partnership.

Watson explains: “He has won three this season but is a Jebel Ali winner in the past. He certainly seems to have improved this season and deserves this step up in class.”

Ali Rashid Al Raihe’s Jet Express and Dhruba Selvaratnam’s Mulaqat would appear the other two with a chance and Selvaratnam, who trains on the track, could have a good afternoon.

Daweyrr and Zoom One should both go close for Selvaratnam, while Watson saddles 17 runners on the afternoon and looks to have several good chances.
