Jockey David Amiss Records 1,000th Career Victory in African Prince Stakes at Suffolk Downs

EAST BOSTON, MA - Jockey David Amiss recorded the 1,000th victory of his career on Saturday, September 22 at Suffolk Downs, guiding Adahai to the wire first in the $50,000 African Prince Stakes before an exuberant crowd of 9,212 on hand for the 2nd Annual Suffolk Downs Food Truck Festival.

Adahai, a three-year-old son of Yonaguska trained by Wayne Marcoux, rated off the front running Danly's Dream and drew clear in mid stretch, saving enough to hold off a late charging Fonzy and complete six furlongs in 1:12 4/5. Adahai is now undefeated from two starts. Adahai returned $5.00, 3.00 and 2.60.

"There have been some bumps in the road," said Amiss. "But I am so grateful to have it happen here, at Suffolk Downs. It feels great to win for a trainer like Wayne and I want to thank all the trainers who have helped me throughout my career - Jay Bernardini, John Rigattieri, Barry Roos and everyone else who played a part in my success."

Amiss, a 47-year-old New Hampshire native, began his career in racing as a teenager with Rigattieri, working his way up from rubbing horses to eventually riding. He recorded his first victory in May of 1986 at Rockingham Park aboard Herbachee for Rigattieri.

Amiss also won the ninth race for trainer Nick Zito aboard Stephen A ($4.40) and swept the late double aboard Same Day Pleasure ($9.60) for Anthony Ryan, capping off the milestone day with three wins. He is currently second in the Suffolk Downs jockey standings with 50 wins.

Also on the ten-race card, Tammi Piermarini rode three winners. Piermarini kicked off her hat trick in the opener with Freud's Irish Miss ($3.20) for Michael Gorham. She followed that up in the third with a win aboard Sweetlandofliberty ($11.00) for Marcus Vitali and those two teamed up again in the fifth with Bishop of Nola ($4.00).

Piermarini currently tops the jockey standings with 73 wins and is in pursuit of her fourth meet title.
