Jockey Inez Karlsson to Donate Final Day Earnings to Charities

Stickney, IL—As Hawthorne bids adieu to its spring thoroughbred meet, jockey Inez Karlsson will donate all of her mount’s earnings to charities, on Monday, the final day of racing. Proceeds from her earnings will be divided between the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund (PDJF) and The Bridge, an organization for youth and family services.

Karlsson chose what may be a particularly lucrative day for the recipients, as she has mounts in all ten of today’s races, and is chasing a riding title, in which she is three behind leader Tim Thornton.

Typically, jockeys receive 10 percent of winning purse money, five percent for second and third-place finishes, and a mount fee anywhere between $75 and $100 should the horse finish out-of-the-money.

Hawthorne Race Course begins its Spring Thoroughbred meet on Friday, March 6, 2009 and will continue through April 27, 2009. Post time is 1:25 pm central time for all live racing. Dark days will be Tuesday and Wednesdays. We are located at 3501 S. Laramie Avenue, Cicero, IL 60804.
