Jockey Tammi Piermarini 2 Wins Away from 2,000

ATTEMPTING TO JOIN EXCLUSIVE GROUP OF WOMEN JOCKEYS WHO HAVE REACHED THE 2,000-WIN MILESTONE

Monday, August 22, 2011 (East Boston, MA) - Veteran jockey Tammi Piermarini enters Monday’s racing program at Suffolk Downs with 1,998 career wins. She is named to ride in seven of the nine races on Monday’s card. Piermarini began her riding career in 1985 as Tammi Campbell, amassing 986 wins through 1998. From 1999 to present, she has won 1,012 races as Tammi Piermarini (her husband John Piermarini is also her agent), for a combined total of 1,998 victories.

Historical records indicate that only four women jockeys in North American racing history have ever reached the 2,000-win plateau:

Julie Krone - 3,704
Rosemary Homeister - 2,438 (active)
Patti Cooksey - 2,137
Vicki Baze (Aragon) - 2,019 (active)
