JOCKEY WINSTON THOMPSON TWO WINS AWAY FROM 3,000

EAST BOSTON, MA – Veteran New England jockey Winston Thompson rode Gorgeous Silk ($15.80) to victory in Saturday’s seventh race at Suffolk Downs, putting him two wins away from career win number 3,000.

After beginning his career in his native Jamaica, Thompson has been riding stateside since 1987. He has been a regular competitor at Suffolk Downs since 1988, earning most outstanding jockey honors in New England in 2004, 2005 and 2008.


Thompson, 45, captured his fourth Suffolk Downs riding title in five years in 2008 and stands in second place this year, 12 wins behind Orlando Bocachica. He is named to ride in six of the nine races on Monday’s card at the East Boston oval.

The live racing schedule at Suffolk Downs is Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday for the remainder of the meet, which concludes on November 7. First post time is 12:45 p.m. daily.
