Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale Gets Underway Monday

Lexington, KY (October 30, 2008) – Keeneland opens its 15-day November Breeding Stock Sale – the largest of its kind in the world – on Monday, November 3.

A record 5,709 horses have been cataloged for the sale, which runs through Monday, November 17. Sessions begin daily at 10 a.m. ET. The entire sale will be streamed live at

The total number of horses cataloged for the 2008 November Sale exceeds last year by 294 and includes 2,893 broodmares, 2,267 weanlings, 542 horses of racing age, and seven stallions.

“Keeneland’s November Sale offers the largest and most diverse selection of quality breeding stock in the world,” said Geoffrey Russell, Keeneland’s director of sales. “Top domestic and foreign buyers alike are attracted to the deep pool of stakes-winning and stakes-producing fillies and mares, as well as weanlings by some of the hottest stallions around.”

Forever Together, winner of last weekend’s Emirates Airlines Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf (G1) was sold as a weanling at the Keeneland November Sale. Maram, winner of the Grey Goose Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf, also was offered as a weanling in the November Sale. Other 2008 stakes-winning graduates include two-time Whitney Handicap (G1) winner Commentator; Beverly D (G1) winner Mauralakana (FR); Donn Handicap (G1) winner Spring At Last; Amsterdam Stakes (G2) winner Kodiak Kowboy; Illinois Derby (G2) winner Recapturetheglory, and Etisalat Godolphin Mile (G2) winner Diamond Stripes.

Mares in-foal to 278 different stallions have been cataloged, including such established sires as A. P. Indy, Awesome Again, Distorted Humor, Dynaformer, Elusive Quality, Empire Maker, Forestry, Ghostzapper, Giant’s Causeway, Gone West, Indian Charlie, Mr. Greeley, Lion Heart, Medaglia d’Oro, Montjeu (IRE), More Than Ready, Pulpit, Seeking the Gold, Smart Strike, Smarty Jones, Songandaprayer, Speightstown, Storm Cat, Street Cry (IRE), Tale of the Cat, Tiznow, and Unbridled’s Song, among others.

Also offered will be mares in foal to such promising young sires as After Market, Any Given Saturday, Bernardini, Bluegrass Cat, Corinthian, Daaher, Discreet Cat, English Channel, First Samurai, Hard Spun, Invasor (ARG), Lawyer Ron, Scat Daddy and Street Sense, among others.

Weanlings representing many of the world’s premier sires, such as A.P. Indy, Afleet Alex, Awesome Again, Distorted Humor, Dynaformer, El Prado (IRE), Elusive Quality, Empire Maker, Forestry, Fusaichi Pegasus, Galileo (IRE), Ghostzapper, Giacomo, Giant’s Causeway, Gone West, Indian Charlie, Lion Heart, Kingmambo, Medaglia d’Oro, Mineshaft, Monjeu (IRE), More Than Ready, Mr. Greeley, Proud Citizen, Pulpit, Rockport Harbor, Seeking the Gold, Smart Strike, Smarty Jones, Speightstown, Storm Cat, Street Cry (IRE), Tale of the Cat, Tapit, Tiznow, Unbridled’s Song, among others, will be featured.

Additionally, weanlings by such new stallions as Aragorn (IRE), Bernardini, Bluegrass Cat, First Samurai, Flower Alley and Henny Hughes, among others, are catalogued.

Among the 542 horses of racing age are talented runners consigned by WinStar Racing, agent; Zayat Stables LLC; Woodford Racing (Lane’s End, agent); Eaton Sales, agent; and Shadwell Farm.
