Keeneland to Conduct April Sale Preview Show on Thursday; Sale Slated for April 6-7


Lexington, KY (March 31, 2009) – Keeneland has cataloged 216 juveniles for the 2009 April Two-Year-Olds in Training Sale, which will span two evening sessions on Monday and Tuesday, April 6-7. Sessions begin at 7 p.m. ET each night. Prospective buyers will have an opportunity to see the juveniles perform under tack during a one-day Preview Show to be held Thursday, April 2, beginning at 10:30 a.m.

Last year’s Kentucky Derby (G1) winner and champion three-year-old colt, Big Brown, is a graduate of the 2007 April Sale. The Boundary colt, an earner of more than $3.6 million in his career, was purchased for $190,000 by Hidden Brook, agent for Paul Pompa Jr. He was consigned by Eddie Woods, agent.


The April Sale also counts among its alumni Kentucky Derby winner and champion Thunder Gulch, as well as two Kentucky Oaks (G1) winners – Gal in a Ruckus and Keeper Hill.

The entire sale as well as Preview Show works will be streamed live at Keeneland.com; replays of works will be posted on the website. Work video also will be available in the Keeneland sales pavilion TV viewing room beginning at 8 a.m., Friday, April 3.

HRTV will air a 90-minute broadcast showcasing Preview Show highlights on Saturday, April 4, at 9 a.m., and provide live coverage of each sale session beginning at 7 p.m. nightly.

This year, juveniles by such established sires as A.P. Indy, Distorted Humor, Dynaformer, Elusive Quality, Empire Maker, Giant’s Causeway, Lemon Drop Kid, Malibu Moon, Medaglia d’Oro, Mineshaft, Mr. Greeley, Pulpit, Sky Mesa, Smart Strike, Speightstown, Storm Cat, Street Cry (IRE), Tiznow, and Unbridled’s Song, among others, will be offered.

Also cataloged are two-year-olds by such top young sires as Afleet Alex, Closing Argument, Eddington, Eurosilver, Forest Danger, Ghostzapper, Kitten’s Joy, Leroidesanimaux (BRZ), Limehouse, Offlee Wild, Purge, Rock Hard Ten, Saint Liam, Value Plus, and Woke Up Dreamin, among others.
