KLONDIKE KATE ROMPS IN FRIDAY FEATURE
Oceanport, N.J. – Cudney Stables and John Gunther’s Klondike Kate drew off down the lane to win the $42,000 allowance optional claiming feature at Monmouth Park on Friday afternoon by a 2 ¾ lengths.
Trained by Allen Iwinski, Klondike Kate covered the six furlongs over a fast track in 1:10 4/5 and returned $6.40, $4.80 and $3.20 as the 2-1 favorite the field of eight fillies and mares. Red Over Blue was second best, completing the $79.80 exacta and paying $13.20 to place and $6.20 to show. It was another 2 ¾ lengths back to Angel Dreams, who paid $3.60 to show.
Friday’s win was the second in seven career starts and the second straight since Iwinski took over the training of Klondike Kate, a 3-year-old daughter of Henny Hughes and the Gone West mare Western Reel.
