LADY ALEXANDER WIRES FIELD IN HONEY BEE STAKES
East Rutherford, NJ [Nov. 20, 2009] - Lady Alexander led every step of the way to win the $60,000 Honey Bee Stakes, her first try around two turns, Friday night at Meadowlands Racetrack.
Lady Alexander cleared the lead from Love That Dance out of the gate and rolled through preliminary fractions of 23.1 and 46.2 before repelling a challenge by Roxyana as they approached the far turn. She extended her lead at the head of the lane and held off a late rush by Our Khrysty to win the event for 3-year-old fillies by 1 1/4 lengths. Lady Alexander was clocked in 1:42 for the 1 1/16 miles with Chuck C. Lopez aboard. She paid $17.80 to win the eighth race feature.
Rosemarie Kesselring's Lady Alexander has now won four of nine career starts and $143,658. Bruce Alexander trains the chestnut daughter of Exchange Rate-Lady Ironwood, by Housebuster.
