Laragh Leads From Start To Finish In JPMorgan Chase Jessamine

Lexington, Ky. (October 9, 2008)—Laragh took the lead soon after the start and led all the way in winning the $150,000 JPMorgan Chase Jessamine Stakes Thursday at Keeneland.

The win by the daughter of Tapit earned her an automatic berth in the $1 million Grey Goose Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf on October 24 at Santa Anita.

Trainer John Terranova II would not immediately commit to the Breeders’ Cup. “We going to have to see how she comes out, obviously.” said Terranova. “We only have 15 days (until the race). It’s been in the back of our minds.”

Laragh ran the 1 1/16 miles on the firm turf in 1:43.54 under jockey Edgar Prado while making her first start outside of Canada. She improved her career record to two wins in four starts and earned $93,000 for Golden Goose Enterprise, LLC and IEAH Stables.

“She has very tactical speed and put me right there from the beginning,” said Prado. “I was very happy when she slowed down a little bit on the backside, and I had enough left at the end.”

The winner finished 4 ¾ lengths in front of runner-up Habaya with Complicity another 1 ½ lengths back in third.

Abbott Hall, the favorite, finished fourth in the field 12. “We didn’t have any problems,” said jockey Robby Albarado. “I had to wait a little longer than I wanted to and then when I asked her she ran kind of evenly. She is a lot better filly than what she showed today.”

Laragh paid $25.20 as the fifth choice in the betting.
