LEZCANO, LEVINE, BROOME SHOW THE WAY WITH ONE MONTH TO GO

With 74 of the 100 days of racing at the 2008 Monmouth Park meet in the books Jose Lezcano, Bruce Levine and Eddie Broome continue to lead the jockey, trainer and owner standings.

Lezcano, a 23-year-old native of Panama, has 102 wins through Sunday’s card, 18 more than his nearest challenger, Eddie Castro. Thirteen-time Monmouth riding champion Joe Bravo is third with 72 wins, 21 more than Stewart Elliott. C. H. Marquez Jr. rounds out the top five with 49 trips to the winner’s circle.


Over in the trainer’s race, Bruce Levine continues to show the way, sporting 41 victories from 116 starts, good for a 35% win clip. Eddie Broome is second with 27 wins, one more than Jason Servis. Tim Hills is fourth with 18 victories, two more than John Rigattieri.

Eddie Broome, a fixture at Monmouth Park for nearly 15 years, achieved a career milestone on Sunday, winning his 1,000th lifetime race after Tastefully Smart went wire-to-wire in the 7th race.

In addition, Broome continues to lead the way in the race for top owner at the Monmouth meet, sending out 18 wins from 70 starters. Repole Stable is second with 14 victories, three more than Patricia Generazio.
