Maria’s Mon Colt Highlights Wednesday at Keeneland January Sale
Lexington, KY (January 14, 2009) – A yearling colt by Maria’s Mon brought $390,000 to top Wednesday’s session of the Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sale.
Florida pinhooker Jimmy Gladwell signed the ticket in the name of his Ferguson Valley Ranch. He said the colt would be sent to his Kindergarten Farm near Williston, Florida, and be sold at auction later this year.
Keeneland sold 230 horses on Wednesday for gross receipts of $4,443,800, down 42.8 percent from 2008 when 233 horses brought $7,772,400. Average price of $19,321 decreased 42.1 percent from last year’s $33,358. The median price of $10,000 was down 50 percent from $20,000 in 2008.
Through the first three days, Keeneland has sold 642 horses for $25,535,400, down 54.6 percent from last year’s $56,186,500 when 667 horses sold. The average of $39,775 was down 52.8 percent from $84,238 in 2008, while the median of $20,000 decreased 50 percent from last year’s $40,000.
Foxtale Farm paid the day’s second-highest price of $115,000 for a colt from the first crop of Pomeroy out of stakes winner Two Punch Lil, by Two Punch. The colt was consigned by Legacy Bloodstock, agent.
Smokem Then Frolic, in foal to Macho Uno, sold for $100,000 to Jay Goodwin/Cloyce C. Clark Jr. Consigned by Bluewater Sales LLC, agent, the five-year-old daughter of Smoke Glacken is a full sister to stakes winner Frolic’s Dream and a half-sister to stakes winner Frolicing.
