Marketing Mix Wins Wednesday’s Featured Denali Purse at Keeneland
LEXINGTON, KY (April 11, 2012) – Glen Hill Farm’s Marketing Mix made a successful return to the races Wednesday by posting a 1¼-length victory over Canadian champion Inglorious to win the $67,000 Denali Purse for fillies and mares before a crowd of 8,591 at Keeneland.
A $150,000 Keeneland September Yearling Sale purchase in 2009, Marketing Mix covered the mile on a firm turf course in 1:35.38. A 4-year-old Canadian-bred daughter of Medaglia d’Oro out of the Kris S. mare Instant Thought, Marketing Mix improved her career record to 10-5-2-1 with earnings of $575,186 with Wednesday’s check of $36,360.
It was the first start for Marketing Mix since winning the Mrs. Revere (G2) at Churchill Downs in November. Prior to that, Marketing Mix had finished second in the Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup (G1) here.
Marketing Mix, favored in the field of 10, returned $5.20, $3.40 and $2.80. Inglorious, ridden by Luis Contreras, returned $5.20 and $4.20 with Hungry Island finishing a head back in third and returning $3.40 to show under John Velazquez.
According to Trakus, which records individual sectional times and distance covered for races at Keeneland, Hungry Island covered the most ground in the field and 16 more feet than Marketing Mix, which equates to about 1¾ lengths of extra ground at the finish.
Racing resumes Thursday with a nine-race program beginning at 1:05 p.m. (ET) that is highlighted by the 11th running of the $300,000 Vinery Madison (G1) for fillies and mares going seven furlongs. The Vinery Madison is the eighth race on the program with a 4:42 p.m. post time.
