Medaglia d’Oro Colt Brings $290,000 On Saturday at Keeneland
Lexington, KY (November 8, 2008) – Demand for quality foals continued on Saturday at Keeneland’s November Breeding Stock Sale, where weanling colts accounted for seven of the session’s top 10 prices.
Stockplace paid the day’s highest price of $290,000 for a colt by Medaglia d’Oro. Out of the Affirmed mare Vanity Flair, the colt is from the family of stakes winners Music Maestro, Circulating and La Grande Mamma.
Both colts were consigned by Eaton Sales, agent.
Keeneland sold 203 horses on Saturday for gross receipts of $10,835,200, down 36.4 percent from the comparable session in 2007 when 251 horses brought $17,038,200. Average price was down 21.4 percent to $53,375 versus $67,881 last year. The median of $42,000 was down 20.8 percent from $53,000 in 2007.
Through day six of the 15-day sale, Keeneland has sold a total of 1,157 horses for $154,902,200, down 46.3 percent from last year’s $288,484,700. The average of $133,883 decreased 36.3 percent from $210,266 in 2007. The median of $70,000 was down 30 percent from $100,000 in 2007.
Rich Fantasy, in foal to Street Sense, was the session’s highest-priced broodmare, selling to Frank Stronach for $260,000. The five-year-old mare, consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent, is by Richter Scale out of Canadian stakes winner Fantasy of Caro, by Caros Love.
Keeneland’s November Breeding Stock Sale continues through Monday, November 17. Sessions begin at 10 a.m. daily.
