Mega Rush from off the pace suitable for the Frost King

TORONTO, November 6 * T V Stables charge Mega Rush looks to spring an upset in Saturday's $125,000 Frost King at Woodbine.

The two-year-old son of Megas Vukefalos enters the seven-furlong Ontario-sired event as the freshest of the eight juveniles. The Mike DePaulo trainee hasn't raced since he broke his maiden in a maiden dash on September 26.

"We thought we would wait and give him a shot in this race and give him a good chance to run big," said the Toronto native. "We've learned that we don't want to rush him back. He seems to run better when his races were spaced out."

During his maiden victory, jockey Eurico Rosa da Silva settled Mega Rush behind horses towards the inside. For most of the race, the gelding lacked racing room. As soon as a seam opened up at the top of the stretch, the youngster rushed to the lead.

"His Beyer figure wasn't all that spectacular," offered DePaulo, referring to the Daily Racing Form speed rating of 57 that his pupil earned. "If you see the tape, he was kind of in trouble and waiting on the rail. He didn't really get a clear trip and he won pretty well."

With several front-running types entered in the Frost King, DePaulo figures Mega Rush could benefit from a nice trip from off the pace.

"If he can get a nice stalking trip, four or five lengths off the pace, it'll be his best trip," he said. "I think he'll have no trouble getting seven eighths. It should suit him fine."

Da Silva retains the mount aboard Mega Rush, who drew post six.

The Frost King is slated for race six on Saturday's 10-race programme.
