Mike Chapple Promoted to Assistant General Manager
Mike Chapple, Vice President of Security and Surveillance at Gulfstream Park, will have the title “Assistant General Manager” added to his already impressive resume.
Mr. Chapple has a long history with Magna Entertainment Corp. owner of Gulfstream Park and Remington Park, the latter in Mr. Chapple’s native Oklahoma. He came to Gulfstream Park in 2006 after serving at Remington for 17 years. Mr. Chapple was on hand when Remington opened its slot business in 2005 and was a consultant when Gulfstream opened its slots the next year.
Sam Gordon, President of the Florida Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association, said, “Mike’s presence, on both the front and backside of the racetrack, has been enormously important to Gulfstream and its relationship with horsemen. This promotion is well deserved.”
In addition to his responsibilities regarding security and surveillance, Mr. Chapple – an Army veteran, family man and minister – served as Remington Park’s Environmental, Health and Safety Manager. He was also part of the lobbying effort in Oklahoma to bring gaming to non-reservation gaming facilities.
Colleagues recognize Mr. Chapple for his steady professionalism and desire to learn, and ability to grasp, both the racing and casino components of Gulfstream’s gaming enterprise. During Gulfstream Park’s previous meeting, Mr. Chapple completed the Groom Elite Certification Course, which teaches students the intricacies of horsemanship, particularly as it affects racehorses.
Mr. Chapple said, “My career with MEC has afforded me the opportunity to work with some true professionals, most recently Bill Murphy, whom I’ve known and worked with since the early ‘90s. On a personal level, Bill is one of the finest people I’ve known. The faith he places on people as individuals and the accent he places on teamwork is of tremendous value to all of us here.”
Mr. Chapple and his wife, Michelle, are the parents of two daughters and two sons: Mekale, Kyla, Mike Jr. and Kaleb.
