Oceanport, N.J. – Wayne Sanders and Larry Hirsch’s Minesave battled early with Freud’s Notebook before putting away that foe in the stretch and holding on for a 2 ½ length score in the $44,000 allowance/optional claiming feature at Monmouth Park on Friday.

Trained by Bret Calhoun, Minesave stepped the mile over a fast main track in 1:39 1/5 and paid $9.60 and $4. Freud’s Notebook held the place, completing the $25.20 exacta and paying $2.60 to place. There was no show wagering on the race that scratched down to four runners, with T.M.’s Treasure checking in a nose back in third followed by Go Go Lolo.

“Bret had the horse ready,” said winning jockey Chris DeCarlo. “My instructions were to break good and see where she was. I found myself on the lead down the backstretch and she never wanted to give it up.”

A 3-year-old filly by Horse of the Year Mineshaft from the Thunder Gulch mare Jaramar Rain, Minesave now sports three wins from six career outings.

Live racing continues at Monmouth Park on Saturday, Sept. 1 – gates open 11:30 a.m., first post 12:45 p.m. Monmouth will host live cards on Sunday and Monday (Labor Day) this weekend.
