MISS SINGHSIX RALLIES UNDER SOLIS TO WIN HOLLYPARK FEATURE
INGLEWOOD, Calif. (Dec. 19, 2008) — Miss Singhsix moved into contention along the rail on the turn for home, swung out for the stretch drive and went on to score a comfortable 1 ¾-length victory over favorite Carmel Coffee under jockey Alex Solis in Friday’s $43,400 allowance/claiming feature at Hollywood Park.
The Irish-bred covered 1 1/16 miles on Cushion Track in 1:42.36 to register her second win in six North American starts. The second choice in the field of six fillies and mares, she paid $5.60, $2.60 and $2.20. Carmel Coffee, ridden by Clinton Potts, returned $3 and $2.60, while the show payoff on Sheza Maneater with Corey Nakatani aboard was $3.20.
While Solis rode back-to-back winners, Rafael Bejarano rode three consecutive winners earlier on the program and has clinched the riding title with three days remaining at the 40-day Autumn Meet.
Bejarano, who leads Joel Rosario by a 52-29 margin, will become the third rider to sweep the five major Southern California meetings, joining Hall of Fame jockey Chris McCarron (1983) and Patrick Valenzuela (2003).
Agapito Delgadillo also rode a pair of winners on the program, while owner J. Paul Reddam was represented by two winners.
Nakatani rode Nan to win the first race for Reddam, the jockey’s second win since returning one week ago from a broken collarbone suffered on the opening day of the Oak Tree meeting.
