Nite Lede Wednesday, October 15th, 2008
ARCADIA, Calif. (Oct. 15, 2008) – Australian-import Prince Rexy, installed as the odds-on favorite, ran down second-choice You Got Me Rocking in midstretch of Oak Tree’s $50,960 turf feature run as Wednesday’s second race, to win by two lengths while negotiating 1 ¼ miles in 1:58.69 at Santa Anita.
It was the third win in four starts for the 4-year-old colt trained by Neil Drysdale and owned and bred in Australia by Nick Moraltis. Prince Rexy’s only setback was by one length when finishing second in his last start at Santa Anita on Oct. 1.
Prince Rexy, tracking in third throughout under jockey Rafael Bejarano, took dead aim in upper stretch before breezing past You Got Me Rocking, who was the 6-5 runner-up. Lighting Hit, with Chantal Sutherland aboard, ran on for third, three-quarters of a length behind You Got Me Rocking and Tyler Baze.
With the reduced field size, there was no show betting. The winner paid $3.60 and $2.20 while the place price on You Got Me Rocking was $2.20.
The winning purse of $31,200 raised Prince Rexy’s earnings to $86,236.
Today’s Pick Six, which covered races three through eight, proved elusive when Chantal Sutherland booted home Ata Benchmark in the final race, returning $71.80 to win and keying a Pick Six carryover into Thursday of $73,212. This is the sixth carryover at Oak Tree through 17 days of racing.
There is also a two-day carryover into Thursday’s Super High Five of $65,169. The Super High Five requires fans to select the first five finishers in the day’s final race.
Oak Tree racing resumes on Thursday with an eight-race card. First post is at 1 p.m.
