NYRA’S GUARANTEED $250,000 LATE PICK 4 A SUCCESS IN DEBUT

When the New York Racing Association opted to offer a guaranteed $250,000 late Pick 4 on Saturdays, beginning February 14, it was hopeful that patrons would warm to the cold-weather wager.

Valentine’s Day proved NYRA correct as $339,363 was put into Saturday’s late Pick 4 pool.


Leading jockey Ramon Dominguez brought home two of his three winners on the day in the late Pick 4 -- he won the seventh race with First Degree ($5.90) and the eighth with Understatement ($9.60) – which returned a $2 payoff of $2,373. Spa Princess ($12.80) won the sixth race and Wirebuster ($10) won the finale.

Although NYRA offers daily Pick 4s on races 2-5 and 6-9 on a nine-race live card, the $250,000 guarantee applies only to the late Pick 4 on Saturdays.

The late Pick 4 is a $1 minimum wager in which the bettor must correctly pick the winners of the last four races on the day’s card.
