PASS THE HEAT EARNS NINTH CAREER VICTORY
ALBANY -- Pass the Heat upped his winning percentage to .500 Saturday when he recorded a smart victory in the $47,724 allowance feature at Golden Gate Fields.
Pass the Heat, ridden by Russell Baze, surged away from his five opponents in the final furlong to win the one-mile contest for 3-year-olds and up by three lengths in 1:38.15. Saratoga's Magic took second by a neck over Cover Magic.
The victory was the ninth in 18 career starts for Pass the Heat, a 5-year-old gelding by Unusual Heat. Trained by William J. Morey, Jr., Pass the Heat paid $2.80 to win as an overwhelming 2-to-5 favorite.
Pass the Heat's victory in the second race on the card completed a sweep of the early Daily Double for Baze, who won the first race with Bold Reward. Bold Reward is trained by William E. Morey, the son of William J. Morey Jr.
Baze was one of three jockeys to ride two winners Saturday. Kyle Kaenel, Baze's son-in-law, swept the fifth and sixth races with Runondemand ($3.20) and Seismic Thunder ($10.20). Frank Alvarado teamed with trainer Jerry Hollendorfer to win the fourth race with Digestivo ($22.60) and the eighth with Any Wager ($7.40).
Sunday is Dollar NFL Sunday at Golden Gate Fields with the track offering $1 general parking, $1 general admission, $1 programs, $1 hot dogs, $1 beers, $1 sodas and television coverage of all the professional football games. Post time is 12:45 p.m.
