PLAYER’S PICK 5 CARRYOVER ($183,594) CLOSING DAY

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (December 17, 2011)—An upset by Bud I Crushed It ($173.40) in the final leg Saturday created a carryover of $183,594 in the Player’s Pick 5 for Sunday, closing day of the Autumn meet, at Hollywood Park.

Since it is the final day of the 26-day season, there will be a mandatory payout in the Pick 5, which has a 14% takeout rate and is offered on the first five races, as well as the Pick 6 and the Super High 5.

The carryover of $189,593 is the second since the wager began April 21, opening day of the Spring/Summer meet. The previous carryover of $107,487 May 8 led to an additional $799,630 being wagered when racing resumed May 12.

Easily the longest shot in a field of eight in the $25,000 claimer on turf, Bud I Crushed It won for the third time in 22 lifetime starts. Owned by Vicente Padilla and trained by Victor Fernandez, the 4-year-old Momentum gelding was ridden by Christian Santiago Reyes. He defeated 3-1 second choice Porfido by a half-length.

The 50 cent Early Pick 4 covering races 2-5, which also included a 31-1 surprise by first time starter Nome in the second, paid $65,078.95.
