PREAKNESS CELEBRATION ANNOUNCES 2010 EVENTS

BALTIMORE, 04-30-10---Maryland Preakness Celebration, Inc. announced the calendar of events for Preakness Week 2010 at a news conference this morning at City Hall. The news conference featured Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, Maryland Jockey Club president Tom Chuckas and Preakness Celebration president Mark Friedman.

Maryland Preakness Celebration, Inc. is a 501 (c) 3 organization that was established in 1988 to produce a festival of events in and around Baltimore to celebrate the middle jewel of thoroughbred racing’s prestigious Triple Crown series. The Preakness® Stakes will take place Saturday, May 15 at historic Pimlico Race Course.

The headline event of Pimlico’s six-week spring meeting, the 135th running of the $1 million Preakness® Stakes (Grade I) answers the critical question-will the Kentucky Derby winner have a chance at the Triple Crown?

Preakness Day is the largest single day sporting event in the State of Maryland with attendance figures topping six-figures in eight of the last nine years, including a record 121,263 in 2007.

“The Preakness is a great national showcase for Baltimore. It is a continued honor each year for Pimlico to host one of the state’s most acclaimed traditions,” Chuckas said. “This year, the Preakness Celebration kicks off a fun-filled week of events that will culminate on May 14th with the People’s Pink Party benefitting Susan G. Komen for the Cure® on Black-Eyed Susan Day, featuring the 86th running of the Black-Eyed Susan for three-year old fillies and on May 15th, one of the nation’s top sporting events, the Preakness Stakes.”
