PREAKNESS CELEBRATION ANNOUNCES 2010 EVENTS
BALTIMORE, 04-30-10---Maryland Preakness Celebration, Inc. announced the calendar of events for Preakness Week 2010 at a news conference this morning at City Hall. The news conference featured Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, Maryland Jockey Club president Tom Chuckas and Preakness Celebration president Mark Friedman.
Maryland Preakness Celebration, Inc. is a 501 (c) 3 organization that was established in 1988 to produce a festival of events in and around Baltimore to celebrate the middle jewel of thoroughbred racing’s prestigious Triple Crown series. The Preakness® Stakes will take place Saturday, May 15 at historic Pimlico Race Course.
Preakness Day is the largest single day sporting event in the State of Maryland with attendance figures topping six-figures in eight of the last nine years, including a record 121,263 in 2007.
“The Preakness is a great national showcase for Baltimore. It is a continued honor each year for Pimlico to host one of the state’s most acclaimed traditions,” Chuckas said. “This year, the Preakness Celebration kicks off a fun-filled week of events that will culminate on May 14th with the People’s Pink Party benefitting Susan G. Komen for the Cure® on Black-Eyed Susan Day, featuring the 86th running of the Black-Eyed Susan for three-year old fillies and on May 15th, one of the nation’s top sporting events, the Preakness Stakes.”

2010 PREAKNESS 5K

The 2010 Preakness 5K benefiting Susan G. Komen for the Cure® will start and finish at historic Pimlico Race Course. Walk or run the course which starts the first mile on the same dirt track the horses use on Preakness Day. After visiting the quaint neighborhood of Mt. Washington, the race will finish in the Infield. Each runner will receive a 10% discount on one regular Infield ticket to the 2010 Preakness InfieldFEST. MECU'S PEE WEE PREAKNESS

Just for kids, MECU Baltimore's Credit Union presents the Pee Wee Preakness, where tiny tots will bounce their way to the finish line on roly-poly Hippity Hops. The “Mini Preakness” will take place at the Federal Hill Park in Downtown Baltimore.
PREAKNESS FROG HOP

Cheer on amphibian contestants as they try and top record jumps of over 8’. The Preakness Frog Hop will be held at Patterson Park. For additional information and for your entry form, call 410-396-6136. Registration will be accepted on the day of the Frog Hop from 11:00-11:45 a.m.
20TH ANNUAL PREAKNESS CRAB DERBY

Maryland’s signature crustaceans will not be outdone in the 20th renewal of this popular event where local celebrities race crabs and the winner collects $500 for his/her favorite charity.
HOT AIR BALLOON FESTIVAL AT TURF VALLEY

Events to Include: Craft Vendors, Tethered Balloon Rides, Walk Thru Balloon, Balloon Glow (at dusk), Children’s Pee Wee Preakness and other Children’s Entertainment, Specialty Food & Drinks, and Live Music Entertainment. THE 37TH ANNUAL PREAKNESS PARADE – PARADE OF LIGHTS

The 37th Annual Preakness Parade will take place on Pratt Street in the heart of the Inner Harbor. Be dazzled by colorful floats, helium-balloon characters, equestrians, marching bands and military units. The Parade will step-off at Market Place, proceed up Pratt Street, and end at First Mariner Arena. Baltimore Ravens running back Willis McGahee serves as the Grand Marshal.
