PRIVATE WISH, $47, UPSETS RIVALS IN MONMOUTH’S SUNDAY FEATURE
OCEANPORT, N.J. * Penny G. Pearce’s Private Wish rallied four-wide before posting a neck victory over Arlo in the $45,000 starter allowance feature at Monmouth Park on Sunday.
Trained by Robert P. Helmetag and ridden by Jermaine Burke, Private Wish covered the six furlongs over a fast main track 1:11 and returned $47, $13.20 and $11.20 as the longest shot in the field of five New Jersey-bred geldings. Arlo completed the $188.60 exacta and paid $5.80 and $4.60. It was another 4 ¼ lengths back to Macho Mo Mon, who returned $5 to show. Taylors Tough, the odds-on favorite in the race, showed the way early, but faded to fourth in the stretch.
Sunday’s win was the third this year and fifth lifetime for Private Wish, a 6-year-old by Private Interview from the Waquoit mare Silicate.
Live racing continues for the Meadowlands at Monmouth meeting on Friday, Nov. 18 * gates open 11:30 a.m., first post 12:15 p.m. As always, Monmouth Park is open seven days a week for simulcasting from across the country and around the globe.
