RACE FOR TRAINER’S TITLE HEATS UP


OLDSMAR, Fla. (April 30, 2011) Trainer Jamie Ness took two trips to the Winner’s Circle, giving him 57 wins throughout 87 days of the meet; conditioner Gerald Bennett has 54 victories to his credit with only four days of racing left in Tampa Bay Downs’s 85th season.

Ness got his first victory for owner Midwest Thoroughbreds with High Cry, a five-year-old Street Cry mare bred booted home by Danny Coa. Ness and Midwest Thoroughbreds struck again with I Wanna Run; jockey Huber Villa-Gomez had the call to ride the three-year-old Werblin gelding, who was bred in Florida by Ponder Hill, Inc.


Jockey Ronnie Allen, Jr. celebrated a hat trick on today’s eleven race program; the reinsman got his first win of the day aboard Trippadeedoda, a three-year-old Trippi filly bred in Florida by J Cary Findlay abd Koni Findlay, owned by Cary Findlay and conditioned to victory by Kathleen O’Connell.

Allen took his second trip to the Winner’s Circle with Nemo Landing; the five-year-old City Zip gelding was bred in Florida by Select Stable One, LLC and is owned and trained by Christos Gatis. Allen’s third victory on the card was aboard Offer, this time for owner Willow Racing and trainer Ron Potts.

Finish Lines… Tampa Bay Downs will race on Sunday, May 1, and Friday, May 6 through Sunday May 8; there will be no live racing on Wednesday, May 4. Gates will open at 10 AM on Friday and Saturday of next week in observance of the early post times at Churchill Downs; and on Saturday, May 7, Tampa Bay Downs will hold live racing in addition to simulcasting the Kentucky Derby. Remember: Louisville has the race, but Tampa Bay Downs has the party!

Sunday, May 8 is Fan Appreciation Day at the Oldsmar oval. To celebrate another outstanding season, Tampa Bay Downs will offer free Grandstand admission as well as $1 beer, Nathan’s Hot Dogs, and soda between the hours of 12-3 PM at concession stands trackwide.
