ALBANY -- Russian Greek, the California Derby winner, worked six furlongs in the fog Wednesday morning at Golden Gate Fields as he continues to prep for the Grade 3 $200,000 El Camino Real Derby.

Russian Greek, trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, worked in company with stablemate Successful Bluff and the two 3-year-old colts navigated their way through the foggy conditions in 1:16 3/5 handily. Jockey Aaron Gryder was aboard Russian Greek and jockey Russell Baze was atop Successful Bluff.

The drill was Russian Greek’s third workout since he captured the 1 1/16-mile California Derby on Jan. 14. The Kentucky-bred son of Giant’s Causeway worked a half-mile in :50 1/5 handily on Jan. 21 and six furlongs in 1:16 2/5 handily on Feb. 2.

The 1 1/8-mile El Camino Real Derby will be run Saturday, Feb. 18, and Russian Greek will enter the race with a record that features three wins in four career starts. Owned by Olympia Star, Inc., Russian Greek has earned $121,700.

Nominations for the El Camino Real Derby close at midnight Thursday and the list of eligible runners will be released Friday morning by the Golden Gate Fields racing office.
The field for the 31st running of Northern California’s top Kentucky Derby prep will be drawn Wednesday, Feb. 15.

Comcast SportsNet California will televise the El Camino Real Derby live when it hosts a one-hour show from Golden Gate Fields from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
