Second Half of Gilchrist’s 1,2 Punch Runs in Sunday’s Ocala Stakes
Northern California-based trainer Greg Gilchrist, in South Florida for the Fasig-Tipton 2-year-old sales earlier this week, brought along two stakes stars to run in stakes this weekend at Gulfstream Park.
Gilchrist sends out Estate of Harry Aleo’s 5-year-old mare Wild Promises as the likely favorite in Saturday’s $100,000 Honey Fox Stakes and her 6-year-old stablemate Victorina in Sunday’s $75,000 Ocala Stakes. The latter could rule the choice in a field of 11 Florida-bred fillies and mares going one mile.
Another highly-accomplished contender in the Ocala is N.T.S. Stable’s 6-year-old Annabill, a winner of $631,000 from a 41-17-8-5 record with jockey Javier Santiago aboard for owner-trainer Milt Wolfson, who claimed her early in her career for $25,000.
The daughter of Outflanker also has run twice this season, finishing a respectable fifth in the Sunshine Millions Distaff behind Leah’s Secret at Santa Anita in January and fifth last out behind Scolara going a mile on turf here in the Marion County Stakes on Feb. 8.
Trainer Allen Jerkens sends out Mr. and Mrs. Leverett Miller’s 5-year-old homebred So Glitzy with solid credentials and Javier Castellano to ride. The chestnut daughter of Gilded Time finished a game third last out in a one-mile allowance over the track on Feb. 8 and ran a big race when fourth in the Top Flight Handicap (G2) at Aqueduct in late November, beaten three lengths for it all by Leah’s Secret.
Completing the field for the Ocala are Jayeff B Stable’s You Asked, Lucille Geranis’ Cat Can Do, Royal Pegasus LLC’s Peisinoe, Zayat Stable’s Zee Zee, Rayzin the Bar Stable’s Fearless Leader, J. Paul Reddam and Rockin BB Ranch’s Peach Flambe, and Lambholm Stable’s Jeepers.
