SHARP CHUKCHI SUNRISE CAPTURES SPRINT FEATURE

ALBANY -- The sharp 6-year-old mare Chukchi Sunrise recorded her second straight victory Friday at Golden Gate Fields when she posted a front-running score in the $29,400 allowance feature.

Chukchi Sunrise turned back a challenge from English Royal on the turn and went on to win the six-furlong sprint for fillies and mares by 2 1/4 lengths over Big Honey Bee. English Royal finished third.

Chukchi Sunrise, the 4-to-5 favorite ridden by Russell Baze, paid $3.60 after clocking a time of 1:10.09. The victory was Chukchi Sunrise’s third in her last four starts and the ninth of her 28-race career.

Chukchi Sunrise is owned by the Joseph P. Morey, Jr. Revocable Trust and trained by William E. Morey, who saddled a pair of winners Friday. Morey captured the second race with Don’t Stop Ridin’ ($6.00), didn’t participate in the third, and then took the fourth with Chukchi Sunrise.

Racing continues at Golden Gate Fields Saturday and Sunday. Post time both days is 12:45 p.m.
