SLEW’S TIZZY ENDS SLIDE WITH DOMINANT WIN IN MILE ALLOWANCE

ARCADIA, Calif. (Sept. 26, 2008) – Slew’s Tizzy, winless in nine starts since taking the Lone Star Derby in May of last year, dominated his competition Friday when a 3 ¼-length winner of Oak Tree’s $61,800 allowance feature at one-mile over Santa Anita’s new Pro-Ride synthetic surface.

Sent to the front soon after the start by jockey Joel Rosario, the 4-year-old son of two-time Breeders’ Cup Classic champion Tiznow coasted through moderate fractions before completing his assertive journey in 1:35.66.

Porto Santo, ridden by Garrett Gomez, finished second, 1 ¼ lengths ahead of Barber and apprentice jockey Brandon Meier. Blue Exit, the 3-2 favorite who was making his U.S. debut after five races in France, checked in fourth.

Although listed as the 5-2 morning line favorite, Slew’s Tizzy was dismissed at odds of 9-2 and paid $11.40, $5.20 and $3.60. Porto Santo returned $3.60 and $3.20. The show price on Barber was $5.20.

Trained by Doug O’Neill for the Joseph Lacombe Stable, Slew’s Tizzy had not raced since Feb. 25 at Santa Anita when second in a high-level optional claimer following winless efforts in eight straight stakes races. Friday’s winning purse of $36,600 boosted his lifetime earnings to $551,419 from a 4-1-2 record in 17 starts.

After Pick Six carryovers during the first two days of the meet that began on Wednesday, there were four winning tickets in Friday’s Pick Six, each worth $244,139.40.

Oak Tree will offer a guaranteed Pick Six pool of $1 million on Saturday when presenting an unprecedented six Grade I stakes races on Breeders’ Cup Challenge Day as part of an 11-race program that gets underway at 12:30 p.m.
