SLOANE RANGER UPSETS IN FRIDAY FEATURE AT MONMOUTH

Oceanport, N.J. – Vicki Schowe’s Pennsylvania homebred Sloane Ranger courageously rallied between horses in the stretch to capture the $52,000 allowance/optional claiming feature by a half-length at Monmouth Park on Friday afternoon.

Ridden by Keibar Coa and getting from nine to seven pounds from the rest of the field, Sloane Ranger covered the six furlongs in 1:09 on a fast track and returned $12.20, $5.80 and $4. Escrow Kid completed the $98.20 exacta and paid $8.60 and $4.20. It was another half-length back to Golddigger’s Boy, who paid $3 to show. Odds-on favorite Travelin Man failed to fire inside the eighth pole and finished fourth.

“I let the other horse (Escrow Kid) go out and I stayed behind the speed,” said Coa, who rode three winners on the card. “At the quarter-pole, the other horse was trying to get out a little bit and I stayed outside of him. Right when I asked him, my horse responded and gave me a good run.”

Friday’s score was the sixth in 26 starts for Sloane Ranger, a 6-year-old gelding by Parker’s Storm from the You and I mare Toppenish.

Live racing continues at Monmouth on Saturday, June 9 – gates open at 11:00 a.m. and the first simulcast race on the full Belmont Stakes Day card is at 11:35 a.m. Post time at Monmouth is 12:45p.m.
