Sly Storm Sprints To Buffalo Trace Franklin County Win
Lexington, Ky. (October 10, 2008)—Sly Storm displayed her affinity for the sprint distance Friday at Keeneland by winning the $112,200 Buffalo Trace Franklin County Stakes at 5 ½ furlongs on the turf.
The 3-year-old daughter of Storm Cat collared early leaders American County and Sea the Joy at the top of the stretch and established a neck margin at the finish of the race timed in 1:03.60.
Jamie Theriot rode the winner. “She had a very good break, and it’s all about the trip,” said Theriot. “We had a perfect trip, and when I called on her she was there for me.”
Taletobetold and Adhsilver rallied in the stretch to finish in a dead heat for second. It was a length back to fourth-place Creative Design in the field of 10 fillies and mares.
Tom Proctor trains Sly Storm, who paid $7.40. “I think she’s just a sprinter, and I don’t think the surface means that much,” said Proctor about the filly, who won the Mongo Queen on the main track at Monmouth Park in July. “They paid enough money for her and they got a nice filly.”
Run under sunny skies, the program drew 22,052 people, a record for a Friday in the fall. The total included more than 4,000 college students. The previous Friday record in the autumn was 20,024, set on October 12, 2007.
