Star to be Crowned at Jebel Ali

Racing returns to Jebel Ali on Friday with a six race card highlighted by a cracking sprint conditions race over the minimum 1000m.

Twelve have been declared, including last year’s winner Salaam Dubai who was placed in the Golden Shaheen on World Cup night in 2007.

Trained by Adi Selvaratnam, he has proved a real star for connections but his trainer feels he will perhaps need the run: “He is ready for a race but will certainly improve for it.

“It is a far stronger race than last year when he won but he is in good form and we are hoping for a big season.”

Leading the opposition is Star Crowned, trained by Rashed Bouresly and who smashed the five-furlong track record at Nad Al Sheba last year.

He too is making his seasonal bow, having finished third in the Golden Shaheen this March.

He then went to Singapore and ran a great race when fifth to Takeover Target and his trainer feels he has improved: “He is a stronger horse this year and I hope a better one.

“He improved throughout last season and continues to thrive so, hopefully, he can maintain his progression.”

With seasoned performers Terrific Challenge and Bounty Quest also in the field, it should be a great race.

Elsewhere on the card ‘home’ trainer Dhruba Selvaratnam would appear to have a strong hand with Chun Tosaigh in the maiden and Mannjal in the concluding 1400m handicap both having particularly strong claims.
