Statewide OTB Pick 6 Contest Hits For More than $15,000! Coincides with Rachel Alexandra’s History - Making Woodward Stakes Victory.
12 New York State OTB Patrons Win More Than $1,000 each
Albany NY, (September 11, 2009) – The New York State OTB Presidents today announced that the statewide Pick Six contest that was conducted during the six weeks of the Saratoga Meet was a success, ending with the Pick Six wager being won on Saturday, Woodward Stakes day. The statewide OTB promotion involved a Pick Six wager each of the six Saturday’s during the Saratoga Meet. Two patrons from each of the six OTB corporations were randomly selected to participate in the promotion. The contest was conducted on New York Racing Association races, helping to promote New York racing and culminating with the winning pick 6 wager on September 5th Woodward Stakes Day.
Catskill Off-Track Betting Corporation President Donald Groth said, “We are very happy that Dave Litfin was able to win the Pick Six on behalf of 12 OTB customers statewide. The OTBs continue to work together on promotions that will benefit OTB customers during the months ahaead. Our next promotion is sure to be even more exciting.The OTB’s have joined together for a $75,000 customer handicapping contest to be held on October 3rd at branch betting centers across the state.”
Capital District Regional Off Track Betting Corporation President John Signor said, “The OTBs continue to be at the forefront of innovative and new promotions that benefit our customers. I want to thank the other OTBs and fans for making this such a terrific promotion and I also would like to thank the State Racing and Wagering Board for approving this collective promotion conducted by all the OTBs.”

The Daily Racing Form, Winning Handicapper, Dave Litfin said, “ I was very happy to particiapate in the NYS OTB Pick 6 promotion. I think this was a teriffic opportunity for all the OTB patrons. It’s always great to be a part of these type of contests, but its even sweeter when you hit it.”
The next OTB joint promotion could be the biggest one ever. On October 3rd the challenge begins to find the best handicappers in new york state. Thirty top handicappers will compete for their share of $75,000 in prize money as the state’s six Off-Track Betting regions present the first-ever New York State $75,000 OTB Handicapping Championship. Qualifying contests, open to the public, will be held Saturday, October 3, at numerous OTB sites across New York. Players may purchase up to two entries at $20 each in the qualifying round. The top five contestants from each region win $500 cash ($1000 at New York City OTBs), $250 in expense money and an invitation to compete in the championship round Saturday, October 24, at OTB’s Albany Teletheater. Contestants will handicap races at Belmont Park.
The top three finishers in the championship round will share in the estimated purse of $75,000 (based on the total number of entries) and each will win an expense-paid trip and entry into the Horse Player World Series handicapping contest in Las Vegas in February 2010. 70% will go to the top finisher (estimated at $40,000), 20% to second place (estimated at $11,500) and 10% to third (estimated at $6,000).
