STORMY LUCY SCORES 32-TO-1 UPSET IN SPRINT FEATURE AT GGF

ALBANY -- Stormy Lucy rocked the boat on Presidents’ Day at Golden Gate Fields when she won the featured eighth race at odds of 32-to-1.

Ridden by Pedro Terrero, Stormy Lucy outran 4-to-5 favorite Curvy Cat down the stretch to win the 5 1/2-furlong dash for 3-year-old fillies by 1 3/4 lengths. Royal Trick finished third.

Stormy Lucy, trained by Frank Lucarelli, paid $67.20 after recording the second major upset of her young career. A Kentucky-bred daughter of Stormy Atlantic, Stormy Lucy paid $46.80 when she broke her maiden at Hollywood Park at odds of 22-to-1 on
Nov. 19.

Stormy Lucy is owned by Frank Gaunt, who saw his filly earn $10,980 for Monday’s win. Purchased as a 2-year-old for $24,000, Stormy Lucky has made $28,045 in her six races.

Jockeys Diego Sanchez and Leslie Mawing both had riding doubles Monday. Sanchez won the second race with R Seeker ($9.80) and the fifth with Pump N Up ($22.80). Mawing scored with Image of Super ($6.80) in the sixth race and Chisenau ($6.60) in the ninth.

Racing resumes at Golden Gate Fields Friday. Post time is 12:45 p.m.
