TALKIN ABOUT LOVE, 2-5, WINS FEATURE AT MONMOUTH

OCEANPORT, N.J. * Talkin About Love made a big run down the backstretch, gained command at the quarter-pole and went on to a four-length victory as the 2-5 favorite in the $45,000 allowance feature at Monmouth Park on Wednesday.

It was the first victory for Talkin About Love since she took the Grade 3 Monmouth Breeders’ Cup Oaks here last August.

The winner, owned and trained by Kevin Sleeter and ridden by Stewart Elliott, raced the one mile and 70 yards in 1:42 2/5, and paid $2.80, $2.40 and $2.10 across the board. The 4-year-old daughter of Not for Love topped a $16.20 exacta with Jenny Bean Girl, the only other New Jersey-bred in the field of six fillies and mares. Jenny Bean Girl paid $6.40 and $3.80 after finishing nearly two lengths in front of Bitter Lemon, who returned $3.80 to show.

Talkin About Love, who has now won seven of 12 career starts at Monmouth, was coming off a second-place finish in the Spruce Fir Handicap. Her last victory came in the Oaks last Aug. 12, when she became the first New Jersey-bred filly to win the prestigious event.

Elliott kept her well off the pace early today, and then asked Talkin About Love for some speed on the backstretch. The filly responded with a big move that carried her to the lead midway around the turn. She increased her advantage in the stretch and was under a hand ride to the wire.
