Terrific relishes the Challenge
The Satish Seemar-trained Terrific Challenge won the featured 1000m conditions race, kindly sponsored by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum's Derrinstown Stud, at Jebel Ali on Friday afternoon.
A prep race for the Listed Jebel Ali Sprint on 19th March, that will be his next target according to his handler: "He will come back for the Sprint itself as there is not much else for him – five furlongs is his trip. He has had a few problems certainly but is very capable on his day." Richard Mullen was in the saddle.
Erwan Charpy has endured a quiet season but Satwa Street was an easy winner for him in the 1000m handicap under Tadhg O'Shea.
Charpy explained: "The horse ran very well here two starts ago but not so well at Abu Dhabi last time. This is his trip and hopefully he can progress."
Doug Watson rarely leaves Jebel Ali empty handed and Pat Dobbs was in the saddle on Bur Dubai who won the 1950m handicap.
Watson said: "The further he goes the more he seems to improve. Hopefully we will get another run into him."
One we will not be seeing again is the Gill Duffield-trained Af Alghabra who gamely won the opening 1800m Purebred Arabian conditions race, initiating a double for O'Shea.
The mare was chased home by stable companion As Mushrif and Duffield said: "Both have run great races and I could not be more pleased. The winner is finished, for now at least as there is nothing left to run her in – but she has won four this season!"
The concluding 1600m handicap was won by Step in Line, trained by Abdulla Bin Huzaim and ridden by Carlos Sandoval.
