TRAINER MOREY WINS DAILY DOUBLE WITH LONGSHOT AND FAVORITE

ALBANY -- Trainer William J. Morey, Jr. used a longshot and heavy favorite to sweep the early Daily Double at Golden Gate Fields Sunday.

Morey won the first race with Lil Angelina, who at 8-1 was the largest price on the tote board in a field of five fillies and mares. Ridden by Jesus Velazquez, Lil Angelina led every step of the way in the one-mile turf race and paid $18.60.

Morey sent out 3-5 favorite Morning Fog in the second race and the odds-on favorite made his short price look like a gift when he took command entering the stretch and went on to post a 5 1/2-length victory under Russell Baze. Morning Fog paid $3.40 after winning the six-furlong starter allowance dash in a smart 1:10.20.

The $2 Morey Daily Double paid $34.40.
